Sure, Archos's Recorder 20 is neither as small or sleek as the iPod nor does it have all the bells and whistles of Creative's Nomad Jukebox 3. This model is sometimes referred to as the Recorder v1 to differentiate it from the later v2 version which looks quite different. My final complaint is that it takes about 5 minutes for the Jukebox to "verify" all the songs in a playlist before it will start playing. Probaby up to 12 hours if I am just listening and not using it as a hard drive.

The headphones that come with it are junk and the Jukebox archoss sound like crap with them. When a second recording is to be made, jukeboc new file name must be created, if this is not done each subsequent recording writes over the file created in the prior recording. The player also has the ability to record audio from a line-in source cables supplied straight into MP3 format. It has also been reported using a compact flash to IDE adapter archoa compact flash card will allow the use of solid state storage, which has no moving parts and is less susceptible to damage from drops or sudden movements.

It also worked with out any problems an a Apple IBook. Sound - As you know this plays mp3s. A much simpler interface would have been one that placed each recording sequentially in a directory on the device or allowed the user to assign a directory to hold recordingswith each recording automatically given names like "1", "2", "3", etc. It is faster and I've had no crashes since installing it. Basically, the whole interface is very menu-driven with multiple button-clicks required to do even the simplest tasks.

The manual is certainly horrible but the controls are reforder intuitive that there is really no need for the manual.

I was skeptical at first that the analog recording feature on this would work well but I have had it a week now and well on the way of entering in the best of my plus record collection. All if all, this is a great little 2. It took me about 4 hours of experimenting to figure out how to efficiently record onto the device. All complaints I have read here are without merit A.
